Synthetic graphite isostatic pressing process

Synthetic graphite isostatic pressing process

Synthetic graphite is available in extruded, vibration molded and isostatically molded forms.  Many of our customers have little or no experience with the common production methods used to manufacture engineered synthetic graphite.  The strongest synthetic graphites are manufactured using the isostatic pressing technique.  Attached is a video detailing the steps and benefits of the ''HIP'' or hot isostatic pressing process.   Although, synthetic graphite is normally pressed in a cold rather than hot process the video demonstrated the basic theory behind the process and is educational for those desiring to understand the process basics.

Vacuum Furnace

Vacuum Furnace

We have created this post for you, the maintenance supervisor that just had one relatively inexpensive part break, causing your vacuum furnace to be down for an extended amount of time. All because the component was not in stock. We have created it for the owner or the engineer in charge of production who does not want to find himself in the afore mentioned situation. What is a vacuum furnace? A vacuum furnace is a type of furnace that can heat materials to very high temperatures. The function is to carry out processes such as heat treatment, sintering or brazing. The area where the heat is produced is called a hot zone. Since...

Precious metal graphite crucible and die casting system

Precious metal graphite crucible and die casting system

Semco Carbon contiues to develop high quality graphite casting crucible and continiuous casting strip dies that are utilized in the production of silver and gold.  Semco Carbon has worked closely with IRM to modify both the capacity of the casting crucible and the geometry of the graphite die configuration to match individual customer's need.  Attached is a video showintg the precious metal strip casting process using and IRM caster fitted with Semco Carbon graphite components.

Density of Carbon

Density of Carbon

What is the Density of Graphite?Graphite has a number of important qualities (high temperature tolerance, electrical conductivity, a relatively low specific gravity making it relatively light) that make it a unique and beneficial material for a variety of applications.  The versatility and machinability of graphite make it a prime candidate for uses where varying density may be essential. For this blog post we are going to use the density of graphite as a tool to separate a wide variety of graphite materials. This will help us to categorize most of the graphite grades available today into three broad categories. Why? Because the graphite density is an important factors in determining...

Graphite Grades

Graphite Grades

The relatively large number of graphite grades available in today's market can cause confusion for the potential consumer in deciding which type of graphite and which graphite grade is appropriate for a specific use. For this blog post we are going to use the individual graphite grain size as a tool to separate a wide variety of graphite materials. This will help us to categorize most of the graphite grades available in today's market into three broad categories. Why? Because the graphite grain size is one of the most important factors in determining suitability of a particular graphite grade to a particular application. Fine Grain Graphite...
