As mentioned in our April blogs, Semco has been designated an essential business in the state of Ohio. The graphite products we manufacture are needed by many essential industries. Hence, we have continued operating and producing graphite parts, with our focus on our client companies that produce life-saving products in the pharmaceutical and medical fields, client companies doing laboratory research, and client companies in the critical food industry.
With state and federal authorities looking into the spread of the virus as well as considering a gradual reopening of businesses, Semco has made a commitment to operate safely, within the official guidelines. Our shop personnel has been working under strict social distancing rules, with various production cells rearranged to comply with these rules. Also, we have established a schedule for applying disinfecting solutions to clean all machines, work spaces, and our cafeteria. We have thus been able to safely produce critical graphite parts in an environment where our employees feel safe.
Semco has accommodated our office personnel by allowing them to work from home and take advantage of cloud computing and video/audio conferencing, with complete access to all the data available on Semco’s servers. With some relaxation of social distancing measures starting to roll out at state levels, we will see a gradual return to the workplace for our office work force. Semco will accomplish this reintegration of the office staff back into the production facility by scheduling designated work-from-home days into the regular office schedule. The goal is to rotate personnel in order to stay under 50% occupancy for the whole crew.
While it has been, and continues to be, a challenging time, our company is adapting in order to maintain the best, safest environment for our employees while keeping our operation viable. We are proud that we have continued to produce quality graphite products for our most critical customers while remaining socially responsible.
