Saw Operator

Job Summary

Operate saws in a safe manner to cut material in accordance with the Alma Cams and job travelers while meeting production efficiencies with minimal scrap.


Essential Job

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with minimal material/tool waste/scrap. The saw operator’s responsibilities shall generally be considered to encompass the following:

  • Use large hydraulic and manual bandsaws to cut raw material stock to rough and finished parts.
  • Change saw blades when required using lock out tag out procedure.
  • Determine the best yield from the material and from the instructions on the job travelers.
  • Enter appropriate data from the job travelers into the E2 system.
  • Maintain proper part counts while running jobs.
  • Keep machines running to maintain estimated production benchmarks.
  • Meet established production efficiencies with minimal scrap.
  • Verify quality on jobs.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Follow all company safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Make necessary notations on job travelers or Alma Cams to improve production/job processes.
  • Ensure material grade and parent stock is marked on remnant materials after jobs have been completed.
  • Use safety lifting apparatus when appropriate.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required

Experience:

  • 1 year manufacturing experience.
  • 1 year plate saw or band saw experience, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to read and interpret part drawings.
  • Able to read and use basic measuring devices, including tape measure, caliper, and micrometer. 
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good math skills.

Other Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Able to read and write English

Working Conditions

  • Working Environment: Manufacturing, dusty, moderate noise level
  • Physical Demands: Sitting/Standing for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 40lbs, with the occasional 70lbs.
  • Travel Requirements: None
  • Required PPE: Safety glasses, steel toe shoes
